This is Shawsheen Tech Wrestling — home of the RAMS. Each season, athletes at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School (SVTHS) make a commitment to the school's long tradition of competitive wrestling. This site is dedicated to this year's team, and to all the students and coaches who in years past have made that same commitment, to better themselves and their team, and to make Shawsheen Tech Wrestling a team effort worthy of recognition by all.
Shawsheen Valley Technical High School is a recognized leader in technology and education. The school's goal is to continue its reputation as an "educational institution of choice" among the many fine vocational schools in New England. The teachers of Shawsheen Tech not only upgrade their own technology skills on an ongoing basis, but also instruct their peers from all over the Commonwealth of Massachusetts — a testament to their positions of leadership in education.
In the fast-moving world of technology training, the educational facilities Shawsheen Tech are widely acknowledge as superb: SVTHS has been named one of the Commonwealth's Top Ten schools for its ability to provide technology to students. The Friends of Shawsheen Tech Wrestling are proud to support such an outstanding commitment to vocational education and, through the school's character-building wrestling program, the athletic pursuits and related achievements of its students.

Rams Pin Down Sectional Title

Undefeated in Dual Meets: 21-0
The Rams Wrestling squad captured the Division I North Sectional team wrestling title at Chelmsford High's Conrad Gym on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The top-seeded Rams posted wins over Acton-Boxboro, 37-13, Lowell, 46-18, and Methuen, 37-28, while capturing the crown and improving their dual meet record to 21-0.
"It's a great feeling," said Shawsheen Tech Head Coach Mark Donovan, who has been in charge of the Rams' program for 25 years. "I have to give a lot of credit to my assistant coaches. We were the No. 1 seed. This was ours to blow. I told the kids there were three or four teams coming into the sectional who felt they could win this. But there's only one team that knows it can win, and it's us. This was a great team effort.
"This means a lot to our program. I don't know how many vocational schools have ever won a Division I sectional wrestling title. This shows the kids we can compete with anyone," Donovan said.
The Rams got three wins apiece from Alex Najjar at 189, Andrew Companeschi at 215, Jesse Dillon at 160 and Brandson Spinosa at 119. Going 2-0 on the day for Shawsheen were Steve Higgins (heavyweight), Ryan Cassidy (145) and Anthony Finn (135).

Rams Seek to Repeat as GAC Champions

2009-10 Season Outlook
The Lowell Sun reported on Dec. 15 that with many talented starters returning, Shawsheen Tech's wrestling team is favored to repeat as Commonwealth Athletic Conference champion this season.
Returning Division 1 state champion Alex Najjar (189 pounds) heads an extremely deep Rams' lineup. Anthony Pimentel (171), Andrew Companeschi (215) and Stephen Higgins (285) should also be forces for Shawsheen. The Rams checked in with a 17-3 overall record last winter.
Elsewhere in the CAC, Greater Lowell Tech will be led by Kurt Henderson (119), Tim Downs (130) and Steve Perry (140).
In the always tough Merrimack Valley Conference, the road to the title will continue to travel through Lowell until someone knocks the Red Raiders off.
Lowell, which posted a 23-3 record last year, is younger this season than it has been in recent seasons, but the Red Raiders have a lot of talent in their wrestling room. Andrew Gauthier (103) and newcomer Brad Meyers (112), a transfer from Dracut, will give Lowell a potent 1-2 punch in the lower weights.
Look for Central Catholic to push Lowell of the top spot in the MVC standings.
Bobby Cole (119) and Derek Cole (125) will keep Billerica in the running for a winning record, while Chelmsford returns a number of young but experienced wrestlers.
Senior Mike Altavesta (171) will be a key performer in Tewksbury's lineup.
With 14 starters returning, Dracut hopes to improve on last year's 10-12 record.
